Crowfields Life

Life at Crowfields

Crowfields residents are diverse in their backgrounds and life experience. What we have in common is a love of nature, an appreciation of mountain life and a desire to live in community.

If you’re looking for a life with fewer responsibilities but plenty of opportunities to be involved, join in.

If you like to socialize, there are many activities for you to attend – book clubs, fitness groups, weekly suppers and other social gatherings. Attend lectures. Teach a class or give a lecture! Create a group that is of interest to you. Tend your own plot in our community garden.

One way to meet people and become engaged in community is to join one or more of our Crowfields committees: Architectural Review, Finance, Grounds, Website, Activities, Neighbors and others.

If you like solitude, there are walks to take and stopping places throughout our campus where you can watch the changing of the seasons.

Life at Crowfields can be as dynamic or as relaxed as your mood.

Activities Committee

In addition, the Activities Committee provides programs of interest to residents at the Clubhouse. Some programs are geared toward Aging in Place. Topics include ways to maintain good health, safe driving, security issues such as elder fraud, and available services that make it easier to stay in our own homes as we age. The Activities Committee also maintains a lending library that includes books, DVDs, and often-frustrating but ever-challenging jig-saw puzzles.

Other programs are for pure entertainment. Some, like storytelling, fly-casting, crafts displays, and house tours, are given by our own talented residents. Others feature speakers from the community. Whether it is a field trip to learn about oriental rugs or a presentation from the Superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway, there is no shortage of compelling reasons for Crowfields residents to break bread, learn and celebrate year round.

The Crowfields Activities Committee organizes a variety of occasions that bring residents together. Most are held at the Clubhouse. They include:

Crowfields’ Neighbors Program

Through the Crowfields’ Neighbors Program a small army of volunteers find ways to make life better for fellow residents who are temporarily incapacitated. The Neighbors Program involves providing meals for people who have just returned home from the hospital or who need a little extra help during the recuperation process.

Sometimes it is a visit to determine what services might be needed. Other times it is providing transportation to and from medical appointments or grocery shopping. It can be as simple as sending a congratulatory card or picking up a prescription at the pharmacy. And it makes a difference in the quality of life we all enjoy here at Crowfields.
