Life at Crowfields

Life at Crowfields

Crowfields residents hail from across the country and the globe. What we have in common is a love of Western North Carolina, its mountains, music, food and culture. We are hikers, storytellers, knitters, quilters, photographers, foodies, musicians, professional men and women (some retired, some still working), writers, readers and animal-lovers. We enjoy getting together for a Simple Supper or socializing over cocktails at First Friday. We enjoy the quiet reflection of watching the seasons change. Sometimes, you’ll find us casting a rod in the pond on a summer’s day to see what’s biting.

Activities Committee

In addition, the Activities Committee provides programs of interest to residents at the Clubhouse. Some programs are geared toward Aging in Place. Topics include ways to maintain good health, safe driving, security issues such as elder fraud, and available services that make it easier to stay in our own homes as we age. The Activities Committee also maintains a lending library that includes books, DVDs, and often-frustrating but ever-challenging jig-saw puzzles.

Other programs are for pure entertainment. Some, like storytelling, fly-casting, crafts displays, and house tours, are given by our own talented residents. Others feature speakers from the community. Whether it is a field trip to learn about oriental rugs or a presentation from the Superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway, there is no shortage of compelling reasons for Crowfields residents to break bread, learn and celebrate year round.

The Crowfields Activities Committee organizes a variety of occasions that bring residents together. Most are held at the Clubhouse. They include:

Crowfields’ Neighbors Program

Through the Crowfields’ Neighbors Program a small army of volunteers find ways to make life better for fellow residents who are temporarily incapacitated. The Neighbors Program involves providing meals for people who have just returned home from the hospital or who need a little extra help during the recuperation process.

Sometimes it is a visit to determine what services might be needed. Other times it is providing transportation to and from medical appointments or grocery shopping. It can be as simple as sending a congratulatory card or picking up a prescription at the pharmacy. And it makes a difference in the quality of life we all enjoy here at Crowfields.
